Hoya's Gemetric lens is a diffractive multifocal intraocular lens that has diffractive rings only in part of the central area.

Vision through the mobile model eye

Zimetric, daytime, building (pupil 3.8 mm)

Zimetric, daytime, building (pupil 3.8 mm)

Compared to a monofocal intraocular lens, distant buildings appear slightly hazy, as if covered in fog. This is a phenomenon typically seen in diffractive multifocal intraocular lenses. Due to the color of the intraocular lens, they appear slightly yellowish.
Gemetric, night, building (pupil 4.8 mm) glare

Gemetric, night, building (pupil 4.8 mm) glare

Glare around bright lights at night appears more pronounced compared to a monofocal intraocular lens. This is a phenomenon typically seen in diffractive multifocal intraocular lenses. However, the glare appears somewhat smaller compared to other diffractive multifocal intraocular lenses. This is presumably because the diffractive rings are located only in the center.

Zymetric, image of the eye chart by distance (pupil 3.8 mm)

The Hoya Gemetric lens appears to be a trifocal intraocular lens.
At 6 meters, compared with a monofocal intraocular lens, it looks slightly blurry, as if covered in fog.
As the target moves closer, it gradually blurs, then becomes clear again at about 90 cm, blurs again, becomes clear at about 50 cm, and then appears blurry again.

Zymetric, night road, pupil (4.8 mm), glare

This is a video actually filmed on the road at night using a portable model eye.
Compared with a monofocal intraocular lens, halos are seen around bright lights (traffic lights, vehicle headlights, taillights).
This is a phenomenon typically seen with diffractive multifocal intraocular lenses.
Compared with other diffractive multifocal intraocular lenses, the glare appears somewhat smaller.
This is thought to be because the diffractive rings are only in the center.

  • The specifications above are based on data provided by the IOL manufacturer or its distributor.
  • An IOL with a higher refractive index is thinner at the same dioptric power.
  • Abbe number: measured for optics exposed to air; a higher value means less chromatic aberration.
