Elana trifocal

(Zeiss)

An improved model over the previous LISA tri; it is hydrophobic and a C-loop shaped lens that is more familiar to ophthalmologists.

Elana (Zeiss) pupil 3.8 mm

With the Carl Zeiss Elana multifocal IOL, compared to a monofocal IOL,
a distant building appears slightly hazy, as if covered in fog.
This is a phenomenon typically seen with diffractive multifocal IOLs.

Elana (Carl Zeiss), night road, glare (pupil 4.8 mm)

With the Carl Zeiss Elana multifocal IOL, at night around bright lights
glare and halos appear more pronounced than with a monofocal IOL.
This is a phenomenon typically seen with diffractive multifocal IOLs.
The larger the pupil, the more pronounced it appears.

Elana (Carl Zeiss), image of the optotype by distance (pupil 3.8 mm)

Elana is a trifocal intraocular lens.
At 6 meters, compared to a monofocal intraocular lens, it appears slightly blurred, as if seen through fog.
As the optotype gets closer, it gradually blurs, then becomes clear again at about 75 cm, blurs again, becomes clear at about 50 cm, and then blurs again.

Elana (Carl Zeiss), night road, glare (pupil 4.8 mm)

This is a video actually filmed on the road at night using a portable model eye.
With the Carl Zeiss Elana multifocal intraocular lens, compared to a monofocal intraocular lens, halos are seen around bright lights (traffic lights, vehicle headlights, tail lights).
This is a phenomenon typically seen with diffractive multifocal intraocular lenses.
It appears more pronounced when the pupil is larger.

  • The specifications above are based on data provided by the IOL manufacturer or its distributor.
  • An IOL with a higher refractive index is thinner at the same dioptric power.
  • Abbe number: measured for optics exposed to air; a higher value means less chromatic aberration.
